13 - 16 Year Old Softball - Seniors

League Ages 13-16

 

The Seniors division incorporates both defensive and offensive skills while having fun in a more competitive environment. There will be interleague games with other leagues within District 5.


Please check the Softball League Age Chart to confirm player's "league age".

 

Minimum Age Requirement

Your child must turn 13 years of age on or before December 31 of the current year in order to register for the regular Spring season.

Season

Practices begin early March. Regular Season games run Mid-March to end of May with playoffs the first week of June. 


Practice

There is 1 weeknight practice each week. Weeknight practices start around 7:30 and are typically 1.5 - 2 hours long.


Games

Teams play 1 week night game AND 1 Saturday game. 

Weeknight games generally start at 7:30 PM. Saturday games are generally between 11AM and 7PM. 

Uniforms

HLL provides a game shirt, and socks. 

Parents must provide rubber cleats and black game pants.

Playing Equipment

Parents must provide ball glove, water bottle, and bat.  Batting helmet with face shield is recommended.

Team

Teams usually consist of 12 players, a volunteer manager, two volunteer coaches and a volunteer team parent.

HLL is an all volunteer organization. We need everyone’s help!  Parents are needed to support HLL through fundraisers.

Seniors Softball - FAQ’S

 

Q: Do you keep score and are there umpires?

A: Yes. Every manager maintains a scorebook. League standings are kept to determine a regular season winner and to determine playoff games. There is a home plate and base umpire.

 

Q: On what size field does this division play?

A: The diamond is 60-foot and the pitching distance is 40 feet while using a 12 inch ball.

 

Q: Can I Manage or coach a team?

A: Yes, if positions are available. Prospective managers must complete an online application. If you would like to serve as a manager or coach, then please note that on your child's spring online registration. All managers and coaches must be approved by the HLL Board. 

 

Q: Will my child get to play all the time?

A: No, not all the time, but no player sits twice until all players have sat once.

 

Q: Can I have my child play on a team with their friends?

A: Not unless they are drafted on to that team. In this age group, player's skills are evaluated in a skills assessment. Then a draft is held.

 

Q: Can my child play up?

A: Parents may request that their child play up one division level.  However to play up, a player must attend both the higher and lower division’s assessment and be drafted to the higher division.  If they are not drafted to the higher division, they must accept playing in the lower division.  All player assignments are ultimately determined by the Player Agent and President.

 

Q: Is my child eligible for an All Star or Tournament team?

A: There are tournament teams at this division level.  Please see our All Stars link for more information.

 

Q: What are the volunteer requirements?

A: HLL is an all volunteer organization so there are many ways to volunteer. Help is always needed with registration, team parenting, assisting with pictures, opening day and fun day activities.

League Ages 11-12

 

The Majors division continues to develop proper softball fundamentals while incorporating both defensive and offensive skills that come with live pitching. The focus is on player development and having fun in a bit more competitive environment.

Games

Parents must provide rubber cleats, and black game pants. 

Playing Equipment

Parents must provide ball glove, water bottle, and bat.  Batting helmet with required face shield is recommended.

7 & 8 Year Old Softball - Instructional Machine Pitch

Ages 7-8

 

The machine pitch level uses the Louisville Slugger Ultimate Pitching Machine. The goal of this division is to have fun while developing proper fundamentals of throwing, catching, hitting, and fielding while starting to incorporate defensive rotations and strategy. Batters get 5 pitches to hit off the coach operated machine.

Minimum Age Requirement

Your child must turn 7 years of age on or before December 31 of the current year in order to register for the regular Spring season.

Season

 

Practices begin early March. Regular Season games run Mid-March to end of May. Playoffs run the first two weeks of June.   

Practice

 

There is 1 weeknight practice each week. Weeknight practices start around 5:30 - 5:45pm and typically last and hour and a half. 

Games

 

Teams play 1 week night game AND 1 Saturday game. 

Weeknight games generally start at 5:30 PM.

Saturday games are usually scheduled in the morning. 

Uniforms

HLL provides a shirt, pants, and socks. 

Parents must provide athletic shoes. Rubber cleats are optional. 

Playing Equipment

Parents must provide ball glove, water bottle, and bat.  Batting helmets are required to have the face shield. 

Team

Teams usually consist of 12 to 13 players, a volunteer manager, two volunteer coaches and a volunteer team parent.

4 to 6 Year Old Softball - Tee / Coach Pitch

 

League Ages 4-6  

 

 

The goal of this division is to have fun while learning the fundamentals of throwing, catching, hitting, and fielding. Batters will get 3 attempts to hit a coach tossed underhand pitch before hitting off the tee.

Minimum Age Requirement

Your child must turn 4 years of age on or before December 31 of the current year in order to register for the regular Spring season.

Season

 

Pre-season practices begin in early March. Games begin mid-March and run through early June.   

Practice

 

Practice is one night a week typically starting around 5:30 - 5:45pm and lasting 1 hour. 

Games

 

Each team plays 10-12 games per season depending on weather. 

Games played on Saturday are usually scheduled earlier in the day. 

Uniforms

HLL provides a game shirt, pants, and socks.

Parents must provide sneakers (rubber cleats not mandatory but helpful).

Playing Equipment

Parents must provide ball glove and water bottle.

Team

Teams usually consist of 8-10 players, a volunteer manager, two volunteer coaches and a volunteer team parent.

4 to 6 Year Old Tee/Coach Pitch Softball FAQ’S

 

Q: What if not enough 4 to 6 year old girls register for this division to fill multiple team rosters?

A: Your options are:  1) play in the corresponding age boys' division

                                    2) request to play up in Machine Pitch Softball if league age 6

                                    3) request a refund

 

Q: Do you keep score and are there umpires?

A: No.  The Tee / Coach Pitch Softball division is structured to teach the very basic fundamentals of softball only. The games are self umpired by the volunteer managers and coaches.

 

Q: Can I Manage or coach a team?

A: Yes, if positions are available. If you would like to serve as a coach or manager please note that on your child's spring online registration. All manager and coaching positions will be approved by the HLL Board. 

 

Q: Will my child get to play all the time?

A: Yes, all players play defense every inning. Everyone bats each inning. 

 

Q: Can my child play up?

A: If your child is league age 6 and wishes to play up in machine pitch (7-8) you will need to attend skills assessments. Placement will depend on 1) assessed skill level, and 2) numbers needed to complete rosters within each division.
